President Kiir travels to Uganda for Independence Day Celebration

South Sudan, Uganda, Juba: On 8 Oct 2022, President Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Saturday left Juba for Kampala to attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary and Diamond Jubilee of Uganda's independence which is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

South Sudan, Uganda, Juba: On 8 Oct 2022, President Salva Kiir Mayardit has on Saturday left Juba for Kampala to attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary and Diamond Jubilee of Uganda’s independence which is scheduled to take place on Sunday.

In her remarks to the media upon departure at Juba International Airport, The Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Lily Adhieu Martin Manyiel, said, “South Sudan and Uganda enjoy longstanding historical ties dating back to the days of the liberation struggle against colonial rule. The two sisterly Countries have special multiple bilateral cooperation agreements in areas ranging from trade, investment and security along our borders.”

She added that “we are aware that our people are concerned about the President’s trip despite the Ebola outbreak in some parts of Uganda, but I assure you that precautions have been put in place both in South Sudan and Uganda to ensure the safety of our President and his accompanying delegation.”


 

 


President Kiir arrived in Uganda, and he is expected to hold bilateral talks with his counterpart President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to discuss issues of mutual interest between the two sisterly Countries.

South Sudan Government’s official page also informed people by posting a picture with the caption, “President Salva Kiir is in Uganda for the latter’s 60th independence day anniversary celebrations.”

The President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also tweeted that “I received Their Excellencies; Salva Kiir (S. Sudan), William Arap Ruto (Kenya), Everiste Ndayishimiye (Burundi), Hassan Sheikh Mohamud(Somalia), Hussein Mwinyi (Zanzibar) yesterday at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. We discussed matters of mutual interest.”

Today, the whole of Uganda is celebrating their 60 years of independence with the President’s special message in which he stated: “As we complete 60 years of independence, let everybody welcome wealth creation and the principles and techniques that support it (Patriotism, Pan-Africanism and Social-economic transformation) and avoid laziness, dependency and dependence. A happy independence day to you all.”
