Botswana: President of the Republic of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi officially performed groundbreaking ceremonies in Mathangwane and Nata villages. The groundbreaking ceremonies signify the start of reconstruction works of A3 road project.

The road under reconstruction connects the Francistown-Nata) and the Nata-Gweta section), A33 road (Nata- Gwasha-Patendamanga). The project will also contribute to the construction of the BHC housing units.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for the road construction, the President of Botswana delivered a brief address. During his address, President Masisi said that the government  is committed to infrastructure development.

In support of his claim, President Mokgweetsi Masisi recalled that they have taken up several transformative initiatives. One of the major projects in this regard is the Development Manager model.

According to Masisi, the initiative is a part of Reset and Reclaim Agenda priority of mindset change. The Botswana Housing Corporation has shared the glimpses from the ground breaking ceremony for the construction.

The President claimed that he is confident that the stakeholders woll be able to deliver the project in time. Further, he said that the cost and quality of the road is expected to be in line with thee requirements of the government.

According to Masisi, the road will help significantly in improving the regional trade of Botswana.

The Minister of Transport and Public Works, Eric Mothibi Molale was also present at the event. He announced that the Ministry had to undergo reorganization to achieve the assignment at hand.

Further, the announced that this time, the risk will be shared between Development Managers unlike in the past.

Meanwhile Botswana Housing Corporation Chief Executive officer Nkaelang Matenge revealed that four out of the  of fourteen housing units for phase 1 will be completed by the women contractors.

The project is being implemented for a sum of approximately P8 million. The housing units will address the shortage of much needed accommodation for public servants.

The Development Managers that are responsible for the road project included:

  • Okavango Consortium (Francistown-Nata)
  • HSNV Group (Nata-Gweta with access road to Tsokotshaa)
  • Bothakga Burrow (Nata-Ngwasha Gate and a section to Pandamatenga).
