Department of Social Development, Mangaung Metro, in partnership with the Office of the Premier, Department of Health, SAPS and local NGOs held an awareness campaign on Child Protection Week in Van Stadensrus.
Some of the main issues children confronted regarding abuse were in the discussion.
Topics included
– Exposing or subjecting a child to behaviour that may harm the child physically or emotionally.
– Assaulting a child or inflicting any other form of deliberate injury to a child.
– Sexually abusing a child or allowing a child to be sexually abused.
Children were taught forms of child abuse and were always encouraged to report such.
These partnerships will ensure that child protection is a reality.
Several campaigns were running related to child protection by various departments.

Last week, Tshireletsong Child and Youth Care Centre held an awareness session on teenage pregnancy, prevention and effects of teenage pregnancy on girls.
The session was presented and conducted by the Child and Youth Care Workers, Professional Nurses, Nurses Assistants and Social Workers. Many topics that are linked to teenage pregnancy were presented, like, young parents, dropping out of school, STI, HIV and Aids, Healthy relationships, etc.
Department of Social Development Lejweleputswa District Welkom office, HIV/AIDS and Victim Empowerment programmes held an awareness session on bullying and children’s rights with learners aged 7 to 14 years from S. A. Mokhothu and Tshireletso primary schools in Nyakallong, Allanridge.
The session was conducted in partnership with Malibongwe Women’s group and We Care aftercare organisations that render services to orphaned and vulnerable children within the Nyakallong community.
