Zambia: Six people have died on the spot after a Toyota Wish vehicle collided head-on with a Sino Truck and Trailer. The accident took place along Great North Road around Ching’ang’auka area between Kafue and Chikankata Boma.

The two vehicles were travelling in the opposite direction of each other. The Toyota wish was north bound while the Sino truck and trailer were travelling south.

The officials investigating the road accident have shared some details about the incident. The fatality occurred on Tuesday, January 9, around 16:00 hours. At the time, the driver of the truck, Robson Mwanza, 31, from Matero Compound in Lusaka, failed to keep to his near side lane. This resulted in the truck’s collision with the Toyota Wish.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka confirmed the details of the accident along with the deceased status of six individuals. He explained that the driver of the Wish Vehicle, only identified as Coilard, had five passengers whose identities have not been confirmed.

Commanding officer Daka says the deceased include two male and female adults and a baby approximated to be around the age of 1. The passengers of the Toyota vehicle had sustained multiple head and body injuries due to the accident.

The police force further noted that notes that the truck had four passengers other than the driver, identifying them as 8-year-old Precious Siyambali and 6-year-old Chileleko Siyambali, both of Jack Compound in Lusaka, who sustained slight injuries.

Other passengers of the truck are: Esther Mukuku aged 27, also of Jack Compound, who complained of general body pains and Siyakwembo Loshina, 20, of the same area, who complained of a painful right leg, All of them were taken to Kafue District Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Daka says the remains of the deceased have been deposited in Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification and postmodern, while the driver of the truck has been detained in Police custody.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged following the collision.

The officials have shared their appreciation to the people of the Ching’ang’auka area who reported the incident.
