South Africa: Delivering the State of the Province Address earlier this year, Free State Premier Hon. Sisi Ntombela made a commitment to the people of the province that a number of roads would be constructed and others rehabilitated in this financial year 2022/23.
Now, almost six months after making a pledge to her people, the Premier is living up to her promises.
Today, 12 August 2022, joined by the MEC for Police, Roads and Transport William Bulwane, Premier Ntombela officially opened the following roads:
- Vredefort – Viljoenskroon
- Wesselsbron – Hoopstad
- Kroonstad – Steynsrus
- Ventersburg – Senekal
The Free State Provincial Government will, in the coming months, embark on an aggressive programme of rehabilitating more roads. This programme will be unleashed using a coordinated approach which involves various stakeholders such as the Department of Transport and business. Over a billion rands will be spent on the construction of these roads.
“The importance of fixing roads can not be over-stressed because of the strategic location of our province. We, therefore, took a decision as EXCO to, amongst other things, prioritize the well-being of these roads. My thanks go out to Members of the Executive Council, in particular MEC Bulwane, for sticking to the promises we made to our people” Premier Sisi Ntombela.
“We appreciate and are aware that many towns need our immediate intervention, and we once again promise to attend to their needs very soon,” she added.
