KwaZulu Natal (Verulam): Reaction Unit South Africa arrested a 36-year-old man on Wednesday morning after they found him in the case of a stolen vehicle in Verulam, KZN.
According to the reports, they found the information through the Tracker. The Tracker contacted the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) and shared information about the stolen blue VW Polo in the evening around 6 p.m.
Reaction Officers were provided with GPS coordinates, which led them to the parking lot of a lodge on Oaklands Drive in Oaklands – KZN. The registration plates on the vehicle had been removed.
Reports also indicated that RUSA members noticed the male and female exiting one of the rooms and confronted them. RUSA also recovered car number plates from the room.
The male was in possession of a key which started the vehicle. The ignition had been changed to accommodate the new key.
The suspect stated during an interview that he is a used car dealer. He and his wife travelled from Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape to purchase a VW Polo. He was unable to produce any documentation confirming a legitimate purchase or details of his supplier.
He was placed under arrest and handed over to the South Africa Police Service for further investigation.
Moreover, the cases of car theft are increasing in Verulam, KwaZulu Natal. Yesterday, on Tuesday, Reaction Unit Officers reported two cases of car theft and one case in which they received a car that had missing for the past eight days.
One of the Reaction Officers recovered that car by using his smartness. Residents praise the RUSA officers for their work, and at the same time, some of the residents degrade the South Africa Police officers as they assume that most of the cases RUSA sorted and gave to SAPS for inquiry.
As one of the residents said, “How many of you think that only RUSA is doing something and giving their credits to SAPS intentionally so that people don’t raise their fingers at SAPS that they are not doing anything?”
