Rwanda: The national air carrier RwandAir has welcomed a new Airbus A330-200 on Monday, August 24, 2026. It is the very first aircraft out of the five which are part of a planned fleet expansion.
This planned initiative will strengthen the long-haul operations of the airline. As more routes and improved connections between Rwanda and international destinations are being added.
RwandAir aims to improve passenger comfort, reliability and onboard connectivity with the expansion as it works to double the number of annual passengers by the year 2029. Arrival of new aircraft with RwandAir will continue to expand its long-haul operations along with the destinations that are already serving across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
Considering this, RwandAir released an official statement. The airline company stated that this acquisition represents another great milestone in providing high-quality services which connect Rwanda with the rest of the world through air travel.
As per the sources, RwandAir operates a diverse fleet for both regional and international routes that connects the African country with other continents. Fleet of the arrived aircraft includes Airbus A330-300, Airbus A330-200, Boeing 737-800NG, Boeing 737-800 and Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft.

The larger one as Airbus A330 aircraft are primarily used by RwandAir Fleet Services for long-haul international flights. The airline also operates smaller aircrafts that adds up to its wide body aircrafts such as – Boeing 737s and Bombardier Q400s. It is majorly run on regional routes that help in connecting Kigali with various cities.
Notably, the Airbus A330-200 has a cargo capacity of 109.10 cubic metres. It can handle maximum take-off weight up to 242 tonnes. Its dimensions follow a length of 58.37 metres and a wingspan of 60.30 metres.
According to RwandAir, the acquisition is only intended to increase the size of its fleet. It will also help in enhancing the services that it provides especially to passengers.
Rather than just considering it commercially, growth of RwandAir has reflected the wider national vision of Rwanda as a major hub for trade, investment and tourism. The government has supported aviation as a strategic driver of economic diversification and the airline aims to play a key role in bringing that vision to fruition.
Kigali is growing its prominence as a conference destination and home to major events. This further includes the Kigali Global Dialogue and various international summits that directly benefit the advanced long-haul airlift.
