South Africa: The Reaction Unit of South Africa has called off their search for the man who was swept off a flooded bridge in Mhlasini – KZN. The officials have asserted that the search was unsuccessful.
The Reaction officers shared that the RUSA R44 Helicopter lifted off at 09:31 (Monday) for the search operation. The officers had received a request for assistance in the search from a Colonel from the Verulam SAPS.
The reaction officers claimed that several parts of the area are not available to access by vehicle due to roads being damaged. The infrastructural issues arose in the region after Saturday night’s torrential rains. The KwaZulu Natal Region has recently seen a devastating torrential floods have claimed four lives.
Meanwhile six individuals in Durban and surrounding regions reported injuries.
A witness informed Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA)Â that on Saturday at approximately 22:00, two men attempted to traverse the bridge in the Mhlasini – KZN region. One of the men was swept away and cannot be located since.
The RUSA Helicopter with Pilot, Crew conducted a low level flight over the river trying to locate the victim. However, Water levels are still high which resulted in an unsuccessful search.
A local channel’s News Crew were onboard the aircraft reporting live from the air regarding the recent floods.
The search will resume later in the day when the circumstances are better suited for the operation. The people of the country have thanked the reaction officers for keeping them informed amid the torrential floods.
They appreciated the efforts of the organization to look out for the people of the country even during the challenging times. Meanwhile, some social media users have also urged the people to keep their safety and security in their minds.
One of the users said, We need to learn and teach. Don’t try to cross a bridge during a flood. Meanwhile, some other users have prayed for the safety of the victim.
