Botswana: Serowe District Leaders and Dignitaries came together at the Thabala Village on Tuesday to launch Botswana Speaks. The aim of the initiative is to allow open communication between the leadership and community.
The parliamentary leadership of the district came forward with the aim of improving communication within themselves.
The residents of the Serowe District were able to witness their representatives in the national administration coming together. They discussed the various initiatives through which the communities under their charge can benefit.
The people of the district have called the initiative a life changing programme which was supported by the Botswana Speaks. Through the programme the people of Serowe can also share their own opinions on the development of the communities.
The programme serves as an opportunity for the leaders of the community to increase their participation in the democratic decision-making of the country’s people. The people have shared that they are happy with the decision of the administration to include them in the decision making processes.
The programme was attended by a number of high-level officials from the local and regional administration. Some of the most critical members of the government who were present at the village for the initiative includes Member of Parliament for Serowe South Leepetswe Lesedi.
He delivered a brief address at the event. He shared his delight in being a part of the initiative. He said that the platform will enable constituents to communicate with their MP’s at any given time.
Accordingly, they can outline their opinions, queries, and suggestions on issues relating to service delivery. The people can further speak to their leaders on the topic of policy-making, among other things.
The Parliamentary representative noted that people can access all these facilities at the click of a button on their computers or any smart or mobile device.
“It is also worth noting that, each of the 57 Parliament constituency offices across Botswana has a dedicated Botswana Speaks desk officer based at each office for direct assistance concerning the use of the programme,” he said.
The activation is currently ongoing across the country.
