Dominica: Sixty families of Dominica received houses ahead of Christmas in a ceremony hosted on Thursday December 19. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development et al presented the houses to the families at the state house conference center.
The Minster said that the houses were a pre Christmas gift for the people of the island. The handover of the houses was made under the Housing Recovery Project (HRP) and the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) Program.
The government of Dominica has been dedicated to their mandate of providing families across the nation access to climate-resilient housing. The housing minister has announced that this year, they have allegedly given houses to more than a hundred families.
The officials have shared that it is the responsibility of the people in the administration to provide houses to the people of the country. The housing recovery project started as a rehabilitation effort for the families who lost homes in 2015 and 2017 natural disasters.
Out of the total houses handed over on December 19, 54 homes were constructed with the help of the World Bank. The remaining six houses were constructed through the EDF funds.
Currently, the government has delivered more than 285 homes under the Housing Recovery Project to deserving families. The housing recovery project has helped the Government in advancing the mandate of becoming the first climate resilient nation in the Caribbean.
The government also funded the construction of these houses as they are a proof of the administration’s commitment to ensuring better quality of life for the people.
The Prime Minister of Dominica. Dr Roosevelt Skerrit was also represented at the event, by the Minister of Finance Irwing McIntyre. In his address, Minister McIntyre said that the housing project has helped communities become more powerful and prosperous.
The project has helped many families get their own houses and access opportunities and life that were previously out of reach. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development et al, Melissa Skerrit was proud to have handed over the houses to recipients days before Christmas.
