St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew celebrated the World Down Syndrome Day with the citizens and delivered a powerful show of support and solidarity for people with Down Syndrome. It was a vibrant procession that moved through the streets of Basseterre on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
PM Drew stated that he was so happy to step out in front of the Government Headquarters and was greeted with bright smiles, energy and excitement of the children who took part in this march, observed ahead of the World Down Syndrome Day.
Together they all gathered and embraced this the 2026 march performed under the theme, “Together Against Loneliness”. Students and staff of Cotton Thomas Comprehensive School led the march, which was joined by enthusiastic supporters who came together to raise awareness, spread love and champion inclusion.
Dr. Drew added that the atmosphere was filled with positivity and unity as participants proudly celebrated diversity, connection and acceptance. He expressed that seeing the students from across the schools who came together proudly showing their support.
He stated that it was a beautiful reminder as the laughter, the colours, and the togetherness was inclusion that lives in moments like these. The children are leading the way in showing them what love, acceptance and community really look like.
Prime Minister Drew along with the senior civil servants, stood in support as the procession passed the Government headquarters. This underscored the commitment of the nation to uplift and empower every citizen.
As St. Kitts and Nevis have officially observed the World Down Syndrome Day, the citizens carried forward the same spirit, by celebrating every child, embracing every difference and continued to build a Federation where everyone belongs.
Drew also shared the glimpses from the celebration on his official social media handle and stated that so much love and joy on Church was observed. He added that moments like these remind them that inclusion starts with the children. They should keep celebrating every child.
