Sudan rape cases are increasing day by day. One more case of rape is reported in which a pregnant woman who was just a 19-year-old student in Sudan has caused anger and ignited a protest at a university dormitory where the actual crime took place.

The reported incident outside Khartoum led the protest, demanded more accountability after such crimes, and started a conversation around the narrative on sexual violence in the crisis-hit country with a population of 43 million.

Hundreds of thousands of students from various universities have come forward and sat in Hajjar dormitory in Omdurman, a city bordering the capital.

The reason for doing the protest is they are demanding justice, safety and decent living conditions. The site is built with three-seven floor buildings with just three security guards and nearly 1,000 women who come across Sudan to study in the country’s top universities.

According to the sources, the attacker entered the hostel through a loose and broken gate at 4 am in the morning on January 25, kept her at knifepoint and proceeded to carry out the attack.

The woman, who was two months in pregnancy, said that the suspect first hit her and then the hilt of a knife, and that’s why she was scared to shout because she was frightened that if she screamed, they might kill her.

Several students of the University have been suffering from the terrifying situation since the incident occurred, and some also claimed that they would sleep only if they had a knife under their pillow.

This is a terrifying incident, and it could happen with any one of us and many other university students going to sleep with a knife under their pillow. Moreover, the key locks of the hostel are made of poor quality, and crime can easily occur in the hostel due to inadequate security, said Barra Mohammed.

The victim was brave enough to tell us all what happened with her. Up to 700 students were present there in the dormitory.
