Limpopo, South Africa: The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has strongly condemned an incident in which two suspects were arrested after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather on 24 September 2023 at Lulekani outside Phalaborwa in Mopani District.
Nairobi: Following a distasteful video clip that has been doing rounds in sections of the media showing an adult giving scotch whiskey to a 3-year-old baby, detectives from DCI’s Child Protection Unit have arrested the suspect and his accomplice.
Department of Social Development, Mangaung Metro, in partnership with the Office of the Premier, Department of Health, SAPS and local NGOs held an awareness campaign on Child Protection Week in Van Stadensrus.
Free State Department of Social Development will be observing Child Protection Week from 29 May until 5 June 2022. This is a national programme directed at preventing and responding to violence, child labour, trafficking, exploitation, harmful traditional practice and abuse against children.
A recent report titled; “Adolescent and Youth Health Policy” released by the Department of Health focusing on adolescent and youth district data shows that every year, girls (some between 10 and 14 years old) are among the unacceptably high number of children who gave birth. Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga registered the highest numbers.
