Botswana: Divisional Traffic Officer North, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Modisaotsile Solomon launched the Tati Siding Crime Prevention Expo. The launch event was hosted on Thursday at the Tati Siding village.
The aim of the event was to promote Community Policing initiatives for the people of the village and the district. “Community policing continues to demonstrate the strength of the customer’s voice in developing and implementing relevant crime prevention strategies for safer communities.”
Divisional Traffic Officer North ACP Solomon made the remarks during the opening of the expo. He delivered a brief yet significant address during the opening of the expo at the Tati Siding village.
He underscored that community policing remains the most effective crime prevention strategy. He said that the strategy enhances the police/community collaborations resulting in joint efforts for addressing emerging crimes.
The Divisional Traffic Officer highlighted that a united front is essential for ensuring safety and security. He further noted that the partnership contributes to a safer and more secure nation in alignment with Vision 2036.
Furthermore, ACP Solomon, urged members of the community to report any suspicious activities to enable prompt action.
The Event Manager, also Chairperson of the Community Policing Cluster 7 in Tati Siding Village, George Abel stated that the Expo was the first of its kind. The event was organised to strengthen existing community policing initiatives and programmes in the area.
He added that the event also aimed to update the community on the crime status of Tati Siding as well as develop solutions to address such.
The outgoing Officer Commanding No. 1 District, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Molapisi delivered a vote of thanks. He commended the sponsors and stakeholders for their support towards police/community crime prevention efforts.
He said this reflected their commitment and dedication towards safer communities. Molapisi further appreciated the organisers for the successful event.
He encouraged them to draw an activity plan for the implementation of strategies. He called non participating members of the community to join crime prevention committees.
The event, held under the theme “Working Together to Create a Safe Community Against Crime.” The event kickstarted with a walk from Tati Siding main Kgotla. During the walk, participants benefited from crucial crime prevention messages shared along the route.
The Expo was organised and sponsored by Tati Siding community policing clusters, crime prevention committees and the business community. The expo was decorated with stalls by the sponsors and stakeholders.
