Police of Kabalagala are investigating the matter of an incident of the drowning of a two years old girl who was a toddler.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident occurred on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at around 0700hrs at the Munyonyo Speke Resort.
According to the statement of Owoyesigyire, which stated that the deceased child allegedly gained access to the beliefs with her parents Nabawesi Florence and the father identified as a Micheal, only for the child to be left on her own, unattended to, before falling into a nearby pond.
Moreover, the whole incident footage was captured on the CCTV, which was recovered from the [premises. However, the CPR team rescued the child, and later her parents took her to Mulago hospital for better treatment, but she was declared dead upon arrival, Owoyesigyire said in a statement.
“Investigations into the incident are on, and currently, it has been ascertained that the parents exhibited some negligence,” he added.
Owoyesigyire conveyed condolences to the grieving family on behalf of the police force and said that further investigations into this matter are still ongoing.
He said that parents should always keep a close eye on their children while moving into new environments.
“The deceased child’s parents wanted to bury the child before carrying out the post mortem. We blocked the tomb, and we picked the body. We took the body to hospital for a post mortem as per the police procedures and later handed over the body to the parents for burial,” Mr. Owoyesigyire said yesterday.
It is alleged that the incident happened as the child’s parents were enjoying the evening.
When they got to know that their child was missing, they informed the hotel management, according to the police. However, the hotel staff is said to have not taken quick action until the parents raised the alarm. But the hotel officials who spoke on condition of anonymity denied that they didn’t respond to it.
However, a hotel official, who spoke in obscurity, said the couple was drinking and didn’t care for the child, who walked and slid into the pool.
The official stated the couple picked the body and wanted to go away with it without the involvement of the police, but the hotel officials called the police. The official said they previewed the CCTV footage, which exonerated the hotel.
