The Transgender Awareness Week kicked off in Africa Yesterday, November 13, 2023. This week is vital to celebrate the role and contribution of the LGBTQ Community. It also aims to raise public awareness of some common challenges they face in Society.
The African Rainbow Family, a Local LGBTQ+ Community, has marked the week vital for the LGBTIQ+ calendar – transgender awareness week.
The purpose of this week is to increase public awareness of the discrimination that trans people face globally. The Rainbow Family Organisation has been supporting the LGBTIQ+ people who are seeking asylum.
On the Inaugural occasion of Transgender Awareness Week 2023, Several trans siblings form an integral part of the African Rainbow Family to drive the visibility and conversation within and outside their community.
While honouring this week, the Rainbow Family emphasizes their values and strongly believes that trans voices must be heard. They also invited the people to listen to the story of one of their services.
Further, they also took a special moment to introduce their new user, Hiba Noor. Hiba joined the Organisation recently for episode 1 of their special podcast. In the Podcast, She bravely told her harrowing story of finding freedom as a trans woman from Pakistan.
Recently, Another Charity and Non-Governmental Organisation called Collectif Arc-en-Ciel in Mauritius has been observed recognizing and celebrating this particular week. They Commenced the week with a strong focus group discussion as part of the Advancing Transgender Rights Project.
They also hosted a stress relief workshop led by the fantastic Josette Arlanda CFMW, Emotional Coach.
Reportedly, November 13 to November 19 is a one-week celebration leading to National Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20. This week was established to raise awareness of the issues that trans and gender nonconforming people face because of their identity.
