Zambia: Three people who remain unidentified have sustained serious injuries in a road traffic accident. The incident involved two vehicles which collided on an unpaved road in Osindisweni – KZN. The accident happened in the afternoon hours of Thursday.
The vehicles involved in the accident have been identified as a white Toyota Hiace taxi and a white Isuzu bakkie. Both the vehicles collided head on resulting in the driver of the Minibus sustaining injuries along with two of his passengers.
The collision also resulted in the death of a chicken meant for an ancestral prayer in the house of the Bakkie driver. After the collision, a passerby contacted the Reaction Unit, South Africa for assistance.
The team revealed that they received the call at the operations center at approximately 14:28 hours. A team of officials was dispatched to the scene at Osindisweni where they interviewed some of the victims and witnesses.
According to the report that came from the reaction officers revealed that the three inured victims were given first aid at the scene. After the team had successfully stabalized the victims, they were taken to the hospital by an ambulance.
As per the official reports of the team one of the vehicles, an Isuzu bakkie was transporting a goat, four (4) chickens, alcohol and groceries. According to the driver of the Bakkie, his family were preparing to conduct a prayer for their ancestors.
The animals were meant to be slaughtered at the function. However, one of the chickens among the group was killed in the collision. The witnesses alleged that the mini bus was travelling on the wrong side of the road before the accident happened.
The officials have shared that the investigation into the cause of the accident is currently ongoing. As per latest reports, the law enforcement agencies have not made any arrests in the matter.
The people have expressed their appreciation for the fact that the victims have not sustained any life threatening injuries. The authorities are optimistic for a good recovery.
