Earlier weak, Uganda airlines suspended all flights towards UAE because of COVID-19, and many travellers faced issues, some in their jobs and some had family issues. Many of them faced a lot of problems.
But now, finally, airlines are open to travel to UAE, so massive crowds were reportedly seen at the airport.
Many people rushed to airline offices in Kampala on January 8 to rebook their tickers to UAE. On Friday, one of the Dubai-based Emirates airlines announced the instructions to start their flights from January 8.
As per the guidelines of the Uganda government, they suspended all flights from December 28 as their preventive measures to control the spread of COVID-19.
However, the suspension of flights affected many ex-pats who travelled to Uganda to celebrate Christmas Eve with their family members or friends for holidays.
According to Phiona Nassuna, who is a teaching assistant at Al Salam Private School and Nursery in Dubai said: “I travelled to Uganda just to celebrate Christmas eve with my family and I was presumed to return to Dubai on January 1 to resume my work, but due to flights suspension I can’t able to resume my work.”
Furthermore, she said, I came to Uganda on Kenya Airways and my return tickets was also booked, but due to flights cancellation, They transferred my tickets to Emirates Airways. But on December 28, we received notification that all emirates flights are also cancelled until further notice.
Nassuna added,” I was supposed to resume my work from January 3, but due to flights suspension, I cant able do that, but the only good thing is our school switched to remote learning.”
“I have been here at the airport since morning to rebook my tickets” so that I can resume my work from January 11. I was worried if I did not continue my work, I might lose my job.
