Nairobi: Uhuru Secondary School, Nairobi, was closed on Monday due to the death of a student in unclear circumstances.
Police of Nairobi is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out at the school and burnt down two dormitories on Sunday night after the student’s death.
According to the statement of the police that the reason for the student’s death is still unknown, and they are trying to find the cause of the death.
As per police and witnesses’ interviews, the student had come from the basketball court and told his friends that he was not feeling well.
He went to sleep but was unconscious before being taken to the school check bay.
No attendant there forced the administration to take him to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
According to Buruburu OCPD Francis Ngugi Kamau, they are investigating the death.
“The student had come from basketball court at around 5 pm and told his friend in the hall that he was not feeling good before the incident happened,” he said.
He added they planned to conduct a postmortem on the body to establish the cause of the death.
The school’s death and fire incident then forced the institution to close it as investigations go on.
According to Kamau, the fire broke out in one of the dormitories at about 9:45 in the evening and burnt down rooms accommodating 119 Form Four students.
Fire experts visited the school to investigate the cause of the fire.
