University of Nigeria Nsukka’s first year student found dead in drainage

Nigeria: The first-year student of the University of Nigeria Nsukka was found dead in drainage. The management of the UNN has gave the confirmation on the tragic death of the student whose lifeless body was discovered in a drainage on Friday, July 05,2024.

Reportedly, the deceased was identified as Favour Okenyi from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science which was found near Akanu Ibiam Stadium within the University premises.

According to a statement issued on Sunday in Nsukka, the Acting Public Relations Officer of University of Okwun Omeaku that confirmed the incident.

He said that the University community is deeply shocked and saddened by the unfortunate death of the young student.

Considering the circumstances surrounding the death are currently under investigation that will aid the investigations and fish out the perpetrators of the evil act.

However, the statement condoled the deceased family and said that the university authority was collaborating with the security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death to prevent any recurrence.

The PR Officer of UNN added further to his statement that the University Community was shocked on Friday, July 05, 2024 by the distressing discovery of a lifeless body which was found in a drainage near Akanu Ibiam Stadium, in UNN.

Notably, the University administration is deeply saddened by the loss of the student and extended the heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic death of such a promising young student.

Furthermore, the management is collaborating with the security and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances which are surrounding her death and to prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents in the future.

The University of Nigeria is a federal university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, in the Eastern part of Nigeria. It was founded by Nnamdi Azikiwe in 1955 and formally opened on October 07, 1960. UNN has three campuses in Enugu State – Nsukka, Enugu and Ituku-Ozalla.
