South Africa: Virgin Atlantic boosts global connectivity of Cape Town with expanded London Heathrow services. As, the Air Connectivity is not just about flights, it is about growth, jobs and opportunity.
Cape Town Air Access, powered by Wesgro, has welcomed Virgin Atlantic’s increased capacity between London Heathrow and South Africa. From October 2026 to March 2027, the Virgin Atlantic will grow its Cape Town service from daily to 11 flights per week. While it will also expand OR Tambo International services to up to 10 weekly flights, by including a daily A350-1000 during the winter season.
Every seat filled on these routes carries real economic consequences. For every 100 international arrivals, two jobs are supported in the economy. More flights mean more visitors, more spending and more livelihoods sustained across hospitality, transport, retail and beyond.
These enhancements deliver:
- Greater capacity and choice for travellers
- Improved arrival and departure timings
- Stronger UK-South Africa connectivity across key gateways
- Direct economic benefit for Western Cape communities
Expansion of Virgin Atlantic is more than a vote of confidence in South Africa’s tourism appeal. It is an investment in the people of Western Cape and its future as a globally connected economic hub.
Along with this, Wesgro is fostering creativity, collaboration and impact through sharing the Western Cape story.
At Wesgro, telling the Western Cape story is more than a mandate; it is a powerful way to drive impact, inspire connection and showcase the opportunities that make the region a leading destination to live, work, visit and invest.
Recently, through the internal Telling the Western Cape Story competition, employees were invited to share their unique interpretation of the Western Cape through creative and compelling storytelling. Six teams rose to the challenge, presenting fresh perspectives that reflected the diversity, innovation and potential of the region.
Beyond the creativity on display, the competition highlighted the power of collaboration and cross-functional teamwork in strengthening a shared narrative that supports inclusive and sustainable economic growth and job creation, across communities in the Western Cape.
Initiatives like these foster a culture of innovation within Wesgro and empower employees to contribute meaningfully to a story that drives real impact.
Congratulations to the winning team for their outstanding submission and thanks to all the participating teams and judges for their passion, professionalism and creativity throughout the competition.
