South Africa: WTM Africa marked a major milestone for Wesgro with the launch of first-ever international tourism campaign for the Indian market. It supports the strategy to unlock access to new markets while driving leisure tourism and business events to Cape Town and the Western Cape.
With over 1.4 billion people and an estimated 14.4 million long-haul travellers, India presents a significant opportunity to grow destination consideration and demand.
Wesgro CEO – Wrenelle Stander was joined by the Consul General of India in Cape Town – Ruby Jaspreet, and Emirates’ General Manager: Southern Africa – Afzal Parambil, and underscored the importance of strengthening connectivity and partnerships between India and the Western Cape.
However, adopting a digital-first approach, the campaign targets travellers in Mumbai, Bangalore, and New Delhi. It draws in key insights such as a strong affinity for culture, heritage, cricket, wide-open spaces, and adventure.
Built around a compelling “search and find” concept, the campaign invites travellers to discover more than they expect, by linking to curated itineraries for families, couples, and adventure seekers, while positioning Cape Town and the Western Cape as a premium yet accessible long-haul destination.
Earlier, Wesgro and Emirates signed an MOU to boost tourism from key growth markets. Wesgro is proud to participate in World Travel Market Africa, observed at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) until 15 April 2026. This premier platform connects Africa’s tourism industry with global buyers and strategic partners.
On the sidelines of WTM Africa, Wesgro and Emirates signed a Memorandum of Understanding to drive inbound tourism and increase visitor numbers to Cape Town and the Western Cape. Strengthening passenger connectivity, has remained a critical enabler of tourism growth, and this partnership represents a significant step toward improving access from growth markets.
