Botswana: The Ministry of Youth Gender Sport and Culture, in partnership with Remmogo Foundation, yesterday hosted the 6th edition of the Botswana Youth Awards under the theme " A Season for game changers".

Botswana: The Ministry of Youth Gender Sport and Culture, in partnership with Remmogo Foundation, yesterday hosted the 6th edition of the Botswana Youth Awards under the theme ” A Season for game changers“.

Delivering his keynote address, the Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare, highlighted that the awards served to celebrate excellence, recognise champions as lead game changers, and most importantly, inspire those who did not make it to that stage.

Minister Rakgare pleaded with the private sector to take part and assist Government as a critical stakeholder in human development, highlighting that young people need the private sector for employment, training and skills acquisition. 

He further stated that the youth dream of making change, and their innovations need technical and financial support.

A total of 20 young people and organisations were rewarded for having demonstrated their capabilities and innovations in various areas and having taken the lead in the development of Botswana’s Socioeconomic development. Two Youths received special recognition from the Minister.

Each awardee walked away with a trophy and cash amount of P7000, while the runners-up received cash amounting to P3000.

The winners are as follows:

1. Best Youth Promoting Culture and Heritage: Thabiso Titus Paul

2. Best Youth in Academic Excellence: Dr Leabaneng Tawe

3. Best in Innovation and Technology: Kedumetse Liphi

4. Best Youth in Fashion Personality: Cendrick Senna

5. Best Youth in Community Volunteerism: Moemedi Topo Kedisitse

6. Best Youth Owned Business: Hello Adsales Botswana, Little saviours academy (Gaone Kwano Mabalane)

7. Best Youth Media Personality: Bakang Keitumetse

8. Best Youth in Leadership: Kago Timothy Mweemba

9. Best Organisation

Supporting Youth Development: Mathangwane Train Organisation

10. Best Youth in Agriculture: Koketso Tlhagale

11. Best Youth in Sports Achievements: Melrose Phuti

12. Best Youth in Tourism: Seneo Perry

13. Best Youth Promoting Religion: Rev.Ndiwenyu Chibi

14. Best Youth Living with Disability: Rowena Koloi

15. Best Youth in Creative Arts: Dr Lame Pusetso

16. Best Youth Promoting Health and Wellbeing: Pontsho Kodisa

17. Best Youth a Activist in Social Issues: Mompati Mbakhwa

18. Best Media House Addressing Youth Issues: 267 Mono Vision

SPECIAL AWARDS:

  • Best Female Youth of the Year: Gaone Kwano Mabalane
  • Best Male Youth of the Year: Kedumetse Liphi

The Minister’s special awards were awarded to two( 2) young individuals whom the Minister viewed as true game changers.

The first awardee made a significant contribution to society as he groomed children to preserve Setswana culture and has not only touched the lives of the young children but Batswana at large. The award was given to 𝐄𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐚 popularly known as Serurubele.

The Minister’s second awardee was given to a young Motswana who has shown the world that Botswana has talent and Batswana are a force to reckon with. The awardee was given recognition for achievements accumulated. 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐠𝐨 was the second awardee under the Minister’s special awards category.

Each Minister’s Special Awardee received a trophy and cash to the tune of P10,000.00 courtesy of the Gambling Authority.
