Zambia: The government has assured the media of its full support in order to enhance the visibility of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects across the country.
Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa says as the pivotal role the media plays in highlighting the government’s developmental endeavors President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration will provide the much-needed support to enhance journalist’s work.
Minister of Information and Media Cornelius Mweetwa adds with the media highlighting the various projects being undertaken and providing accountability, checks and balances, the new dawn government will be correctly informed.
The Minister said this when he officiated at a “ meet and greet the minister” social event held at Crystal Springs Hotel in Chipata City after finalizing his familiarisation tour of Eastern Province.
“And it is for this reason that my ministry is going to push frantically towards improving the conditions of service and work environment of media personnel in the public sector,” he said.
The Minister, who is also the chief government spokesperson, pledged provision of utility vehicles to public media institutions.
“I will push that to ensure that all ZANIS offices in all the 116 districts should each have their own independent transport, and I am starting with three provinces that do not have transport,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minister encouraged the media to promote ethical behaviour among the citizenry by not fanning the fire of discord in the country.
He noted most political players are, in reality, friends, despite the image they portray to the public of being up in arms against each other.
“If you check my phone, almost every day we greet each other with Emmanuel Mwamba. It’s the truth, ask him. We greet each other with Bowman Lusambo,” he said.
He has since commended Paramount Chief Mpezeni for preaching unity during the Minister’s courtesy call at his palace.
