Zambia: Inspector General of Police Grapheal Musamba has assured the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) that police will crack down on individuals and organisations involved in the production, sale and distribution of fake KoPa replicas on the market, as per the reports.

Musamba says intellectual property crimes cost FAZ millions of kwacha in losses, and police will not hesitate to join hands with FAZ to clamp down on offenders in order to arrest the vice.

The police top cop was speaking when FAZ president Andrew Kamanga, accompanied by his general secretary Reuben Kamanga, paid a courtesy call on Musamba.

“We will be on the lookout for intellectual property thieves. FAZ is the chief administrator of football in Zambia, which has provided an enabling environment for football to be played in good order. We will be available for security, support, and any other issues as our doors are open for you,” Musamba said.

“We are also aware of Chipolopolo’s participation at the Africa Cup of Nations and Zambia Police; Chipolopolo is our team, and all of us, being citizens, are deemed to be supporters of our national team. If we don’t give support to FAZ, who are we going to give support to?” Musamba asked.

In response, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga, who presented a full set of KoPa replicas to Musamba, said the Association was grateful for the support and open-door policy shown to FAZ.

“The KoPa is purely our initiative, which we embarked on in 2018. We are grateful that you have seen us at short notice, and this is testimony of your continued good working relationship with FAZ. We hope to continue with this partnership so that crimes associated with intellectual property are addressed,” Kamanga said.

Moreover, people are appealing to the FAZ team to reduce the prices of Jearsy as it is more costly. One of the residents said, “Reduce the jersey’s prices, name. They’re too high; I can’t buy one jersey at K750 when there’s one for K200 in Chisokone. With this economy elo nishi, my monthly salary is K1,500.”
