Zambia: The Defence and Security Wings have been urged to always work together, utilize their expertise and do more to enhance food security in the country.
The President of the Republic of Zambia and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force, Hakainde Hichilema, gave the directive Friday, 30 September 2023, during the Pass Out Parade of 1,017 Zambia Correctional Services Warders and Wardresses at Nyangu, Kaoma District of Western Province.
President Hakainde said the Defence and Security Wings have a lot to offer during peace times to supplement the efforts of government programmes and engage in economic activities such as agriculture, skills development and production among others.
On this premise, Zambia Air Force continues to implement this government policy direction by engaging itself in economic activities on agriculture, education and health care and offering many other services to the communities it operates from.
Key achievables for the Air Force so far on agriculture include the Chisamba agro, poultry and livestock farm, Ndeke agro and livestock farm in Mumbwa, the Samora farm in Mbala, Chamba Valley and ZAF Samora Block production venture, among others.
ZAF is yet to fully explore opportunities in Lufwanyama and Mpika where surveys have already been done for agricultural purposes in order to continue contributing to the national food basket.
The Zambia Air Commander, Lt Gen Colin Barry, was among the Defence and Service Chiefs who accompanied the Commander-in-Chief at the Pass Out Parade at Nyangu.
Lt. Gen Barry has since congratulated the Zambia Correctional Service and all its Service members for the successful training and passing out of 1017 Recruits. Congratulations, Correction Service, on this milestone!!
