Mauritius: Sydney Mushanga, MP, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Youth, Sports and Child Matters of the National Assembly of the Republic of Zambia, accompanied by 9 Members of the Committee and Senior Officers of the Zambian Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, is presently leading a delegation for a study visit to the Mauritius National Assembly.
The Parliament of Mauritius is honoured to welcome delegates from the African continent having a keen interest in benchmarking on common issues from the Mauritian system.
On Monday, 21 August 2023, the delegates paid a courtesy call on Sooroojdev PHOKEER, GCSK, GOSK, Speaker of the National Assembly.
During the courtesy meeting, the Chairperson pointed out that the main objective of their visit is to learn and share best practices on the protection and rights of children. Speaker emphasized that parliamentary exchanges serve to enhance parliamentary diplomacy and offer opportunities for mutual sharing and learning.
The Zambian delegation will also have a courtesy call on Honourable Mrs Kalpana Devi Konjoo-Shah, Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, followed by a working session with senior officials of the Ministry.
A courtesy meeting with Rita Venkatasawmy, OSK, Ombudsperson for Children, followed by an interactive session with the senior officers of the Ombudsperson for Children’s Office and a meeting with Hewantee Luckeenarain, Commissioner for Probation and After Care Service also form part of the programme of the visit.
The delegates will also undertake guided visits to the National Heritage sites. Mauritius National Assembly Parliament House is in Port Louis. Delegates met on Tuesday, 22 August 2023.
