Zimbabwe National Netball Team ‘GEMS’ have not been paid their allowances by the Zimbabwe Association for their participation in the African Netball Championship.
The team participated in the African Netball Championship that was held between Nov 26, 2023 and Dec 06, 2023. It is really very doubtful that despite a local bank being the main sponsor and having poured US $30,000, the team was not paid for playing the games.
Reportedly, the players have made the statement that they have only received US $50 per day during camp ahead of the Championships in Botswana.
It’s very wrong that the National Team has not been paid with their allowances yet, how can we think of that they will do justice to other teams.
The act is not appropriate at all as it lowers the dignity of the players and the sport.
Following the situation, the fans and many other people have come in to support the players and the team.
Cossam Ndlovu came to support the national team and wrote, “There is a problem in Zimbabwe chief officers always think they are better than the people on the ground.”
Another person with the username Dating Coach, Mr All, commented, “This is very bad.”
Another user, Zamani Ncube, wrote, “This is one of the reasons why some soccer players are not interested in playing for the Warriors; sponsors or benefactors should insist on paying the money directly into players’ accounts instead of paying through their association.”
Mandla Moyo also came in support of the team and commented, “Let’s tell the truth: as long as it’s a Shona who is in charge, this is bound to happen.”
Runyararo Jokoro commented, “Even if 30,000 USD is to be distributed, it’s still very minimal; I think they should just say we don’t have funding to sponsor the games. Some would have invested their energies to that, hoping at the end they will invest in something because sporting is limited by age.”
