South Africa: One person was killed during an attack which happened in the afternoon hours of Friday in Canelands KZN. Another victim, who was also on the same road the now deceased person has reported serious injuries during the attack.
The two suspects were shot during an unprovoked attack in Canelands – KZN after which the members of the public stopped to check. The members of the public reached out to the Reaction Unit for support.
The reaction officers were called to the scene at approximately 20:28 in the evening. On arrival, Reaction Officers discovered a male believed to be in his forties lying in the ground. He was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his eye.
While attending to the scene, RUSA Members were informed by the public that a second male was shot and lying in a pathway in the informal settlement approximately 300 metres away (picture 2). Officers proceeded to the location and located the victim’s lifeless body. He was shot in the head.
He was alive and was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. Person who died was wwalking on the road with his girlfriend. The girl spoke to the Reaction officers and shared their official reports regarding the incident and gave them the details she had.
The girlfriend of the diseased individual informed Officers that they were walking along the pathway when she heard a gunshot. Her boyfriend then collapsed.
She did not notice the suspect. It was confirmed that both victims had no relation to each other and were still in possession of their valuables. This established that the attack was not meant for the purpose of robbery.
The officials have not been able to establish a cause for the death of the victim. The officials have shared that the investigation has been ongoing and they are looking for the suspect.
On the other hand, the people of the community have expressed their condolences to the deceased’s family. The people are also hoping for a safe and quick recovery for the other victim who was shot in the eye.
