Zambia: A 12 year old boy of Mwasemphangwe’s Tom Village in Lumezi District has lost his life after he was attacked with a stone. The aggressor of this incident has been identified as a girl aged 11 who also loved in the same house as the victim.
The victim was older than the girl and has been identified as Frank Nyirongo. The girl, who has been known to have a history of violent behaviour hit the deceased victim at the back of his head.
He was taken to the Lumezi District Hospital after the attack where he was to be given treatment for his injuries. However, he lost his life during treatment at the hospital premesis and was declared dad by the hospital.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident to the media in Lundazi today.
According to the commanding officer the incident happened on November 9, 2024 at around 14:00hrs. The attack happened at Nkhanyu Trading Center in Mwasemphangwe area of Lumezi District.
He stated that the matter was reported to Lumezi Police Station on November 10, 2024 at around 11:30 hours.
According to the Police Rport, on November 9, 2024 at around 14:00hrs a group of juveniles were playing at Nkhanyu Trading Center and among them was the now deceased boy and the accused 11-year-old girl.
The Police Chief said during the process of playing the deceased juvenile got a pair of slippers belonging to the accused girl and ran away with them.
Mr Mweemba further explained that it was at that point that the accused juvenile got a stone and threw it at the now deceased, hitting him at the back of his head, causing him to fall to the ground.
“Thereafter, the deceased’s father, Boyd Nyirongo was notified by other children and he quickly rushed him to Mwasemphangwe Health Center where he was later transferred to Lumezi District Hospital and later passed away on November 10, 2024 at around 12:00 hours,” said Mr Mweemba.
Police say the deceased did not sustain any visible injury and his body has since been deposited at Lumezi District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.
Meanwhile, the accused is in the custody of her parents adding that both parents have agreed that it was not intentional.
However, police have stated that the juvenile offender would be taken to police when need arises.
