Botswana: The Kweneng District Leadership has a generous donation of cows from the members of the community. The donation came as an act of solidarity and commitment to support the grieving families of Botswana.
The families in Kweneng district have been struggling to cope with the loss of loved ones who died in an accident in South Africa. The accident, which happened just before Easter claimed the lives of 45 individuals.
The members of the community have come together to make the donation of 15 cows to support the members of the community. The Kweneng District Leadership noted that the donated cows have currently been slaughtered.
They have also started the distribution of the food to the grieving families. The District Council was delighted with the generosity and compassion that the people had shown.
Many organizations from across the district have come forward to extend their support in terms of food packages, psychological counselling and more. The administration, which is currently preparing for the mass burial for the 45 victims, also hosted support sessions for the families.
The donation reached the members of the community on Thursdy. At the handover ceremony for the donation, the Council Secretary, Olebile Kgollo Mafala indicated that the cows have been slaughtered already.
He claimed that the donation will be shared equally amongst the families. He indicated that out of the 15 pledged cows they have managed to collect and slaughter 11 and the remaining 4 will be collected tomorrow.
Further, at the handover of the donation, Kgosi Mhaladi stated that he is still astonished by the love that Batswana continue to pour to the bereaved families. He ishappy to see the the support they are showing to the families after their devastating loss.
Kgosi wished prosperity to the farmers who have contributed. In addition to Kgosi Mhaladi’s words, the Council Chairman, Allen Jacob appreciated the gesture extended by the members of the community. He gave an assurance that the meat will definitely reach all the families tonight.
The distribution is led by the Social & Community Development to ensure that all families receive their share.
