The United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), an Armed Political party, killed at least 16 people of Allied Democratic Forces rebels and saved 12 children who had been kidnapped by the group, said by the UPDF Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

As per the Tweet by Lt Gen Kainerugaba, last night, we killed 16 ADF terrorists South of Busunga/Nobili border point. We also saved more than 12 children who ADF enslaved.

This killing of ADF people and recuse of the children is another success of Operation Shuja, a Kiswahili word for courage launched in November between the Congolese army, FADRC and the UPDF targeting the ADF in the thick DRC forests.

Lt Gen Muhoozi also tweeted recently, in which he claimed that over 1000 ADF terrorists had passed since the launch of the operation in November.

However, the Commander of Land Forces in the UPDF stated that it is a part of the operation, the joint forces are now going to target the ADF commanders.

“In our next phase, we’ll go after all ADF commanders!” Your ladies had better stay away from you! But if they get too close to you, criminals, we’ll kill them,” he said.

The UPDF launched Operation Shuja on November 18 with artillery strikes against ADF hideouts in the dense DRC forests.

The UPDF is operating Nobili -Kamango- Mukakati route opened the first harsh way against the rebel group, which saw the invasion force advancement deep into Virunga mysterious forest dislodging ADF terrorists in several camps, including their stronghold of Kambi Ya Yua where recovered various military attire and documents.

A second route from Kasindi to Beni, Nobili-R. Semliki Bridge was opened before the third one from Burasi to Boga, where the UPDF seized the ADF airfield.

ADF:

The ADF has been working in the volatile North Kivu province for several years, which borders other regions such as Ituri to the north and South Kivu to the south and has been a battlefield for a number of rival armed racial groups since 1998.

The region consists of three cities, including; Goma, Butembo and Beni, and six territories—Beni, Lubero, Masisi, Rutshuru.

As per the headquarters for Strategic and International Studies, the ADF established a terrorist group by the US government, has used the name ‘Madina’ at Tauheed Wau Mujahedeen to underline its ties to the Islamic State.

In 2019, the Islamic State claimed that they were responsible for an ADF attack, citing a “Central Africa Province” for the first time.

Musa Baluku, who performed as a senior ADF Islamic legal official before reducing power following Mukulu’s arrest in 2015, leads the organization.

The group has been claimed because of the attack in 2021, of bomb attacks in Kampala that leftover seven people dead.

Therefore, the group attacks, but especially those villages and towns where they know the joint forces are not present and loot food and animals.
