Zambia (Namwala District): Namwala District Police arrested one of the Puliscamba residents on charges of killing his wife on 8th February 2024.
He is a resident of the Puliscamba area in the Itapa ward for the suspected murder of his wife. Southern Province Police Commissioner Auxension Daka says that Namwala Police Station is holding Hastings Hanambuli, aged 26 years, for the suspected killing of his wife on 8th February 2024.
Commissioner Daka gave an interview to the media after arresting the suspect in which he said the suspect’s uncle, Silvester Hambayi, reported the murder to the police.
“A report of suspected murder in Namwala was reported on 8th February 2024 at Namwala Police through a cell phone call from a Silverster Hambayi that his nephew Hastings Hanambuli has murdered his wife in the Puliscamba area in Itapa,” said the Police Commissioner.
As per the reports after inquiry, the culprit used a metal sprayer nozzle in the act. As a result, the victim sustained a swollen forehead and multiple bruises on her back, hands and legs, which became the reason for her death.
Furthermore, the police commissioner also added that foam was also coming out of the victim’s mouth.
“The object which is alleged to have been used in the act was picked up by Police which will be used as exhibit pending court proceedings,” Commissioner Daka said.
He said Namwala Police have since instituted investigations in the matter, and the suspect has been detained at Namwala Police station. The body of the deceased has since been deposited at Namwala District Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination.
Residents are in deep shock after this crime; one of the residents said, “When relationships or marriage get to points where in any misunderstanding one picks up life-threatening “equipment” like Knife, Panga or anything that may end up finishing the life of another, quit that relationship or marriage immediately. Life is very important; unfortunately, many lovers or couples don’t value it. Life is very fragile.”
