65 Nabisunsa students obtain diplomas in French language

A total of 65 students from Nabisunsa Girls’ Secondary School have graduated with DELF diplomas in the French language. They did this diploma from the French Ministry of Education after attaining proficiency in the language.

DELF stands for Diplome d’Etudes en Langue Francaise. The French Ministry of Education awards other official qualifications to certify candidates from outside France in the French language.

Yesterday, on Monday, the graduation and certificate awarding ceremony was held at the school, which was attended by the officials from the French Embassy and Alliance Francaise de Kampala.

According to the interview of ‘Lucille Frontaine’, the cooperation attaché in charge of culture, sports, education, and French language focal person at the French Embassy in Uganda who as well as represented the Ambassador that the learning French the Nabisunsa girls were being empowered.

Furthermore, Fontaine stated, “We want to highlight that the French are the future language and girls have to save their place in the future. It is necessary for travelling, trading and doing many other things. By children on this path, we can have them take their rightful place.”

She praised the school for ensuring and showing the students how important the French language is to them.

“It is not only about the language French but also about to keep knowing and speaking about your local language. It is good to speak English and French, but at the same time, it is also important to speak your own local language. Do not forget your local language.”

According to Patrice Gilles, who is the director for Alliance Francaise de Kampala, rather than taking people to places or studying French just as it is for any other language, it opens one’s mind to different things and cultures.

“You get to know about other people’s cultures because it opens one’s mind. Studying French helps one understand the world better. Attaining diplomas by the Nabisunsa students is a good gesture and will contribute to their future careers,” Gilles said.

According to Michael Kushemererwa, a french teacher at Nabisuna for both the UNEB and international curriculums, the students achieved proficiency in speaking, writing, reading and listening.

After attaining several pieces of training in various countries, he noted that he realized the students needed DELF training to speed up with learners in other countries.

Moreover, Kushemererwa stated that DELF is vital for students in terms of mileage because it gives them access to diplomas from the Ministry of Education of France. These diplomas are valid for life. When any student needs scholarships and jobs, this is the thing which helps them get a job or money as well as it is an advantage for them and gives them an opportunity to go abroad.

These diplomas also help learners be fast speakers of the French language.”
