Botswana Police Service (BPS) is working closely with local communities in the various parts of the country with the aim of building safe and secure environments. The Police Service has been conducting engagement initiatives such as school outreach programmes, Kgotla meetings and workshops to promote better safety and security.
The authorities have shared that these activities are designed to highlight the commitment of the Police Service to working with community and various stakeholders.
In line with this mandate of the Police Service, Tlokweng Police and other stakeholders visited the Border Gate Mall. The officers urged the public to support, speak out against Gender Based Violence (GBV) and seek assistance from relevant authorities for remedial action.
The engagement was organised as a collaborative effort between stakeholders including Makgabaneng, CEYOHO, Bona-Naledi, Nkaikela Youth Group, NAHP, APSA, BOSASNet and the Botswana Network for Mental Health.
The authorities also conducted outreach activity in Maun. During this outreach, the police interacted with the residents at Borolong Kgotla.
The authorities were focusing on discussions about crime-prevention measures and community safety as a part of the outreach initiative. During the interaction, BPS officers urged the residents to secure household tools that could be stolen and used to commit crimes.
Meanwhile, parents and children were also asked to remain cautious and not enter rivers due to danger posed by crocodiles and other dangerous aquatic animals.
Finally, at the Geeta village, the police and stakeholders engaged with residents and held discussions focused on finding ways to tackle GBV incidents in the area. Community members talked about issues like substance abuse and poor parental guidance which can act as major drivers of violence in the community. The officers urged everyone to take an active role in reporting incidents of crime to the authorities.
