Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit made the announcement that the government will pay the salaries of 16 doctors of Dominica-China Friendship Hospital. The announcement was made on yesterday Wednesday October, 14 2026.
The decision was taken after the meeting held between the PM Dr. Skerrit and Thomas Letan, General Secretary of the Dominica Public Service Union DPSU, Dr. Diane Robinson Amor, President of the Dominica Medical Association, Dr.Kenneth Darroux, Chief Executive Officer of the Dominica Hospitals Authority. Moreover, at the meeting there were representatives from different departments including the Ministry of Health, Dominica Hospitals Authority board, Doctors from the DCFH.
During the meeting, Dr. Skerrit and representatives have a discussion on the delay of the salaries of the 16 doctors of the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital. In the discussion administration got to know that the 16 doctors who did not receive September month salaries were appointed directly by the Dominica Hospital Authority, while other doctors in the public hospital system receive their salaries through the Ministry of Health.
The Prime Minister stated that to solve these loopholes in the system from now onwards the Ministry of Health will pay the salaries of the 16 doctors from the October month. He said,“What we have done in the government system, is that we have taken over the payment of the 16 Doctors directly through the Ministry of Health, so from October all of the Doctors will be paid directly by the Ministry of Health for and on behalf of the Hospital Authority”.
Additionally, the September month salaries of the 16 doctors of Dominica-China Friendship Hospital have been paid by the government. The Prime Minister officially confirmed it in the media briefing after the discussion with representatives. He said, “The salaries of the 16 doctors have been paid, the check was sent to the Hospital authority and as we speak , payments are being transmitted to the receptive bank accounts of the 16 doctors”.
Moreover, the administration also allocated extra funds to the Ministry of Health for the payment of the 16 doctors salaries from October month onwards.
Notably, to avoid such problems the PM established a committee comprising representatives of the Government’s Board of Management, DPSU, DHA board and Doctors. The committee will examine and share the employment conditions, administrative procedures and operational concerns with the Prime Minister weekly.
