South Africa: The Department congratulates Mr CH Rootman for being declared the third prize winner in the category Excellence in Special Needs Leadership in the National Teaching Awards held this morning by the Department of Basic Education.
Mr Rootman is a principal of WH De Klerk Special School in Emalahleni, Nkangala District. He is a great motivator and inspires learners and his teaching colleagues.
He has a passion and is dedicated to the school and his profession. Through his efforts, he has inspired learners to prepare for their future which would allow them to become responsible citizens contributing to the growth of the economy.
His learners and colleagues are inspired by his non-judgement, kind-hearted and positive approach to life.
Mr Rootman keeps to date with current educational affairs and engages and leads his staff, SGB and development meetings.
He also sharpens his intellectual prowess by attending workshops, seminars, symposiums and management training opportunities.
He also keeps up with new developments in his field through the media, the internet and reading educational material from various sources.
He is a leader and mentors his colleagues in the use of IT applications, administration, and operational and logistical tasks.
One of his mission is to have learners that personalize the values of the school and educators who focus on the needs of learners, providing value-driven, quality education.
He believes parents should be in partnership with the school and educate their children according to the core values.
He strives to maintain and manage a school where learners are equipped with skills to enable them to approach their future as value-driven young adults.
