Botswana: The High Commissioner of Mozambique, His Excellency Mr Antonio Macheve, paid the Ministry of Trade and Industry Executive a courtesy call where he met Minister of Trade and Industry Honorable Mmusi Kgafela, the Assistant Minister Honorable Beauty Manake and Ministry Senior Officials.
The purpose of the visit was to exchange ideas on how to balance trade relations between Botswana and Mozambique.
Mozambique has shown interest in renewing Botswana’s beef supply to Mozambique which stopped due to COVID 19, and also supplying Botswana with prawns and fish. Mr Antonio emphasized that they are ready to sign the revised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Botswana.
In his remarks, Honourable Mmusi Kgafela highlighted the need to harmonize rules and regulations for citizens of both countries and to close the gap between the economic statuses of those outside the youth range.
Also giving her view, Hon Beauty Manake noted the need to collaborate with Mozambique on sea food and the dispatch of coal from Botswana to Europe, assisting with transport and logistics from Mozambique to benefit from their trade.
Manake added that there is a need to zoom into how the MoU could work for both countries and the kind of opportunities that could be drawn from all the expertise that Botswana has as a country in terms of beef production.
As per reports, Botswana is one of the largest suppliers of beef in Africa, and they supply not only in Africa but also in the world.
Moreover, Botswana’s beef industry mainly focuses on their exports business, and Mozambique is one of its crucial destinations. They supply beef through the Kazungula border post, their main entry point.
Botswana’s beef is known for its high quality and is produced from free-range, grass-fed cattle raised naturally. Their beef is tender, healthy and tastes delicious. They also focus on hygiene and the safety of food.
