Botswana: As part of Celebrating 139 Years of Existence, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetsme Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, will today (04/08/2023) award medals to over 600 deserving police officers. The event will be held at the Special Support Group (SSG) Parade Ground in Gaborone starting from 07:30hrs.
The awarding of medals is a way of recognising and appreciating members of the Botswana Police Service for their outstanding services and conduct in police duties.
The Medals consist of Botswana Police Mertonous Service (BPM), Botswana Police Distinguished Service Order (OSO), Botswana Police Jubice Service (USM) and Botswana Police Long Service and Good Conduct (LSCCM) and are awarded to officers of different ranks.
Botswana Police Medal for Meritorious Service is awarded to police officers for service of a meritorious nature, and it is awarded to a candidate who has served for 12 years and set a high example by his/her conduct and diligence.
Botswana Police Distinguished Service Order Modal awarded to police officers who have distinguished themselves by devotion to duty. It is attained after serving for a period of 30 years.
Botswana Police Jubilee Service Medals is awarded to police officers who have served at least 25 years and have shown by their conduct and character that they are worthy of the honour.
Botswana Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal is awarded to police officers who have served for a continuous period of 18 years without, among others, not convicted of any offence of a nature deemed to bring the name of Botswana Police Service into disrepute not beer frequently guilty of minor disciplinary offences.
The Police Day celebrations will continue at the National Stadium on the 5th of August 2023, where Botswana President Masisi will inspect the Ceremonial Parade. Several activities, such as Air Display, Fire acrobatics and K9 (dog) display, are lined up for the Day. The event, which starts at 0600hrs, is open to members of the public.
