Kenya: Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Ababu Namwamba hosted Wael Nasreldin Attiya, the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Ambassador was accompanying a delegation when they met at the Talanta Plaza Headquarters.
The aim of the meeting was to deliberate on areas of mutual interest and collaboration around sports, youth affairs and the creatives. The two countries share a warm and cordial relationship with each other.
The Cabinet Secretary acknowledged the strong bilateral relations between Nairobi and Cairo. He recollected the two nations have collaborated on various fronts to advance partnership in the development of their nations.
“Kenya is proud of the strong ties it has enjoyed with Egypt in its 60 years of friendship, which has seen us collaborate on various issues to advance the development of our countries.
As a strong country on matters of athletics and Egypt being known for her football prowess, we are keen to continue this bond to elevate our sporting sectors and ensure that our talented athletes realize their full potential,” assured the CS.
“We want to learn from Egypt’s success in football and to build partnerships on areas of security and infrastructure around our sports ecosystem, while also extending our expertise and know how in the athletics arena” CS Ababu added.
He invited the Ambassador to take advantage of the flagship #TalantaHela program in Kenya.
“We are rolling out a revolutionary initiative to identify, nurture and monetize talents. We invite partnership with Cairo in this space, to propel #TalantaHela to the next level,” remarked the CS.
The Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba called on the Ambassador to extend support to the East Africa nations in their preparations to host AFCON ‘27. “We invite you to extend your support to this cause which is key in strengthening the spirit of the East Africa Communities.”
Ambassador Attiya assured the CS Namwamba of Cairo’s readiness to support key ministry programs. He especially pledged their support in organizing a proposed friendly football match between Egypt’s and Kenya’s national teams.
He said this would strengthen collaboration in sports, and the two parties would be tasked with formulating an MoU to actualize the partnership.
While acknowledging Kenya’s pedigree as a global athletics powerhouse, Ambassador Attiya thanked the CS for the Ministry’s cooperation that opens the door to Egyptian athletes to utilize Kenya’s High-Altitude facilities for training.
