Zambia: One person has died while three others are battling for their lives in Luwingu District Hospital after being involved in a road traffic accident. The accident happened along the Luwingu-Kasama road last week.
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, Lucky Munkondya said Felix Chanda 26, died upon arrival at Luwingu District Hospital. The increased number of road traffic accidents have become one of the most concerning factors for the administration.
The police force has been urging the people of the district to follow all the road traffic rules while driving. This will ensure the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
According to the District Commanding Officer, the victim sustained minor cuts on the forehead, bruises on the chest, and suspected internal injuries due to the incident
Commanding officer Munkondya confirmed the development in a media statement. She said that the accident happened on Tuesday this week along the Luwingu-Kasama Road.
She explained that the accident involved a Fuso truck with registration number ACX 9975, driven by Constantino Kabwe. The incident happened when the driver attempted to overtake two vehicles along a curve.
The Commanding Officer said the vehicle lost control and flipped two times, causing the other vehicles to block the road.
She adds that the three other people, Wellington Mulenga, 39, Constantino Kabwe, 26, both of Maiteneke village and Stanley Mwansa, 36, of Kapisha village in the chief Chipalo area, are admitted to Luwingu District Hospital.
The three sustained several body injuries but are responding well to treatment. They are expected to make full recoveries and be discharged from the hospitals after their treatment
Meanwhile, hospital authorities of the healthcare centre where the victims were taken after the accident said the condition of the three is stable. They confirmed that they were responding well to treatment.
Police issued a Brought in Dead (BID) form, a post-mortem was conducted on Friday, and the deceased has since been buried.
