Botswana: Kweneng District Council Management and staff participated in a health walk on Friday, March 1, 2024, The organization hosted the health walk due to the rise of Covid 19 cases reported recently.
SHE & Wellness Committee were responsible for hosting a health walk starting from Kweneng District Council RAC. The endpoint of the health walk was to Molepolole Prisons and back. The event started at 06:30 hours.
The organizers of the event talked about the health benefits provided by the initiative. They said, “The main objective of this walk was to improve or maintain the overall health of employees.”
According to the experts, participation in health walk initiatives can boost the immune system. Accordingly, the Health Department of the district also recommends such practices.
The department claimed that it can help one to recover more quickly both physically and mentally.
Moagakgotla Person, Dietician at Scottish Livingstone Hospital encouraged participants to exercise daily. The expert also participated in the SHE & Wellness Committee-organized health walk initiative.
”Statistics shows that non communicable diseases such as Diabetes, High blood pressure, cancer are on the rise. So it is vital to ensure that we change our lifestyles and make sure that we participate in different sporting activities.
This will help us to relieve stress, strengthen our bones and muscles hence improving productivity in the workplace,” said Person.
Furthermore, dieticians and medical experts claim that it is advisable for people to take 150 minutes a week for physical exercises. He noted that it depends on the person how they want to divide their time in the week.
Further, he asked the participants of the health walk initiative to have healthy, balanced meals.
He suggested that reducing food rich in calories/fats from the overall meal charts is imperative. He stated that vegetables and fruits are important to include in a meal. They provide the body with micronutrients and soluble fibre.
The Deputy Council Secretary (Finance and Administration) Sebonego Mosinyi thanked all the participants of the health walk. He also thanked the stakeholders who helped make the day a success

- Botswana Police Service (Molepolole Stations)
- Rural Metro Fire Station.
He encouraged the attendees to make it a habit to exercise their bodies; not only exercise on such organised activities.
During the health walk, the people of the district were given an opportunity to learn about the various ways they can remain healthy.
