Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) revealed the players of the Warriors Squad for the Malawi Four Nations Tournament.
The Four Nations of Africa Kenya, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe has decided to arrange the joint football tournaments. The football associations of the four different nations have agreed to hold the joint football tournaments at the upcoming FIFA international window between March 18, 2024 to March 26, 2024 in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The Warriors Squad has announced the team which will play in the tournament, are as follows:
Goalkeepers: Martin Mapisa Dynamos FC, Marley Tavaziva (Brentford B England) and Donovan Bernard (Chicken Inn).
Defenders: Shane Maroodza Huddersfield Town (England), Divine Lunga (Mamelodi Sundowns), Gerald Takwara Ohod FC (Saudi Arabia), Kevin Moyo (Dynamos FC), Teenage Hadebe (Tumosan Konyaspor, Turkey), Peter Muduhwa (Highlanders FC), Munashe Garananga (KV Mechelen, Belgium), Emmanuel Jalai (Dynamos FC), Brendan Galloway Plymouth Argyle (England), Jordan Zemura (Udinese Calcio, Italy) and Joey Phuthi (Sheffield Wednesday, England).
Midfielders: Marshall Munetsi (Stade de Reims, France), Junior Makunike (Simba Bhora), Andy Rinomhota (Rotherham United, England), Tivonge Rushesha (Reading FC, England), Tawanda Chirewa Wolverhampton Wanderers (England) and Walter Musona (Simba Bhora FC).
The strikers are Tinotenda Kadewere FC Nantes (France), Daniel Msendami Jwaneng Galaxy (Botswana), Tawanda Maswanhise Leicester City (England), and Bonne Macauley Cambridge United.
The head coach, Norman Mapeza, and assistant coach, Takesure Chiragwi, will teach the team.
Reportedly, the first tournament of the four nations will feature the senior men’s national teams (A-teams). The four nations are committed to collaborating to advance football development and transformation across the regions.
The official organisers of the tournament expressed that it is believed that such events elevate youth football programs across Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The tournament provides an opportunity which is valuable for the national teams. It is a platform for the teams to face quality opposition, in preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 AFCON qualifying campaigns.
The concurrent youth tournament for the U20 national teams will take place during the same period. All the teams have brought the best young players from across the countries.
The U20 tournaments will significantly aid in developing and exposing elite youth talent while preparing teams for the upcoming 2024 AFCON Under 20 qualifying players later this year.
