City of Cape Town supports small businesses to expand with training programme

Elton Pienaar, who is the owner of the business aims to upskill and train the clients in the fields of security and radio control, which unfortunately is a growth that is needed in South Africa.

Cape Town: City of Cape Town is helping small businesses to expand with the training programme. A family business in Delft has seen a significant growth in their service, that were offered in recent years.

The family thanked the training and mentorship received via Urban Waste Management team of the city of EPWP Entrepreneurship Trainee Programme.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Urban Waste Management – Alderman Grant Twigg visited the Bonolo Holdings, which is a Delft-based business to see the progress, and the one that it has made by participating in the programme.

Elton Pienaar, who is the owner of the business aims to upskill and train the clients in the fields of security and radio control, which unfortunately is a growth that is needed in South Africa.

Pienaar began the business without any academic background. During this time in the programme, he has to get benefit from the training modules, by including the personal leadership that has allowed him to fully embrace the leadership role in his family business, the team boosted his self-esteem and ignited the desire to study further.

Since their participation in the programme, Pienaar has gone on to complete his matric and expanded the business to include a secondary training centre in Kimberley.

Considering this, Alderman Twigg said that the EPWP programmes of the City of Cape Town are not only aiming at creating the jobs but also strengthening and growing the businesses, which is evident by Bonolo Holdings’ and is a massive development through the Entrepreneurship Trainee Programme.

Twigg added that they will continue to show the support for small businesses and work with them as they continue to grow and serve the growing economy.

EPWP Entrepreneurship Trainee Programme

The EPWP Entrepreneurship Trainee Programme, is now in its third year, that equips entrepreneurs with essential skills to meet their goals through comprehensive training and development modules, which are provided by the University of the Western Cape.

These modules cover the financial management, marketing and leadership, coupled with the personalised coaching and mentorship. The impact of the programme over the past two years has been profound, while fostering the job creation and revenue growth among their participation in the enterprises.
