Mauritius: The government of Mauritius celebrated the newest centenarian of the nation, Mrs Bholeea Mohan. The 100 year old was born on 12 August 1924 and she celebrated her 100th birthday on August 15.
The celebration was hosted at Hans Hall in Clementia with several government officials and family members. The images from the celebratory event featured in the social media account of the government of Mauritius.
The celebration was attended by the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Soomilduth Bholah. The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mohammud Zahid Nazurally also accomoanied the Minister of Finance.
The officials have shared that the 100 year old received a variety of gifts from the government officials and leadership. The leaders have shared that it is important for the administration to keep the elderly population of the nation in mind.
Notably, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity honoured Mrs Mohan with a cheque. The cheque amounted to Rs 26,203.
The other gifts included a vacuum cleaner, a bouquet, a centenarian medal, a certificate, a Special Telephone Service from Mauritius Telecom. The newest gift from the Senior Citizens Council. She also received a cheque to the tune of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund.
Mrs Bholeea Mohan is also known as Dadi Soumarine among the people of the community and her loved ones. She was born into a family of two brothers and one sister, all of whom are deceased.
She was married to late Dusruth Mohan, a labourer and fisherman. Together, they had five children, including three daughters and two sons, though one son had since passed away.
Mrs Mohan has a large extended family, comprising 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
The Centenarian worked as a labourer at Beau Champs Sugar Estate. She participated as well in ‘Geet Gawai’, a pre-wedding ceremony combining rituals, prayer, songs, music and dance.
She attributes her longevity to the care provided by her family and the grace of God.
