Kenya: Deputy President of Kenya Rigathi Gachagua led a tree-planting ceremony at the Methodist Church of Kenya. The church is situated in Mikumbune, Meru County where the Deputy President of Kenya was accompanied by several officials.

The initiative

The church is celebrating 100 years of their existence in the nation and the community. The officials from the Kenya Forest Service were also present at the event alongside Deputy President Gachagua.

This historic event marked 100 years of faith and community service. At the same time, the tree plantation ceremony also supported the government’s goal.

The government of Kenya have announced that they are dedicated towards growing 15 billion trees by 2032. The Kenya Forest Service shared the images from the tree plantation ceremony and the celebration on their social media.

The tree planting and celebration initiative was organized and guided by KFS officers from Ruthumbi. The initiative was hosted under the leadership of the Forest Station Manager for the community.

The initiative was a proof of Kenya’s dedication to make positive additions to environmental conservation in the nation. The officials have shared that the 15 Billion Tree growing campaign will span for a decade and conclude in 2032.

The officials have shared that the members of the community have supported this campaign through various initiatives. The various organizations of the Kenya have also extended their support towards the organization.

The President of Kenya, William Ruto, who launched the initiative in December 2022, has also participated in several initiatives. The stakeholders of the Methodist Church of Kenya, Mikumbune, Meru County were delighted by the celebration.

The Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua urged national and local leaders to unite in addressing pressing issues such as climate change. He made the remarks during the celebration while he was  accompanied by a number of government leaders.

  • Former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi.
