Botswana: Selebi Phikwe Public Library hosted a graduation ceremony to honor the students who have completed their ICT training programme. The event was held under the theme: “ICT: A wheel for transformation of mindset to attain sustainable development”
Dr. Tebogo Collier Makolobe congratulated the students who have completed their ICT Course, he said that he was proud of the achievements made by the 74 graduates. He said this is the result of hard work, dedication, and a shared commitment to a brighter future for the graduates and for Botswana.
He further noted that “as we reflect on today’s theme, “ICT; A Wheel for Transformation of Mindset to Attain Sustainable Development,” we also acknowledge the important role ICT plays in advancing Vision 2036, specifically Pillar No. 1: Sustainable Economic Development.”
Botswana’s Vision 2036 aspires to create a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation, technology, and an empowered population. The students and their families were present at the Selebi Phikwe Public Library for the event.
Dr. Mokolobe said that Information and Communication Technology is more than just a tool; it is the engine that powers economies, creating opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, and improved service delivery. For Botswana, embracing ICT is crucial for achieving sustainable economic development. It enables efficiency across all sectors being: agriculture, education, healthcare, and public administration while opening doors for new industries in the digital age said Dr. Mokolobe.
He reminded the students, they are responsible for protecting the public sector. The authorities told the students that the skills they have acquired in ICT will help them achieve greatness in their career. Further, it will also help improve the delivery of services, streamline government operations, and provide solutions that benefit citizens more effectively.
Botswana needs a government that is tech savvy, one that can respond to the changing needs of its people in a fast-paced world.
The members of the community were not left out as they were encouraged to know that ICT provides the platform to break barriers, to innovate, and to create employment not just for individuals but for others as well. The digital economy is full of opportunities, from online businesses to freelance work, and the entrepreneurial possibilities are limitless.
Dr Mokolobe reiterated that the skills the graduating class now possess, places them in a better position to contribute to Botswana’s Vision 2036 goals by becoming self-reliant and playing a role in the country’s economic growth.
