Botswana: The Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture bid farewell to their leader and MYSC Minister Tumiso Rakgare. The Minister has concluded his five year tenure in the office and is ready to hand over his responsibilities to his successor.
Ahead of the inauguration of the new government, led by Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, the team at the MYSC paid a heartfelt tribute to Minister Rakgare. The farewell ceremony was hosted on Thursday at the Ministry Headquarters.
The MYSC HQ staff have shared that the tenure of the former Minister was marked by many transformations.
The team has claimed that in his tenure, the Minister changed the face of all the offices under his charge. During the farewell, MYSC Permanent Secretary, Bridget Poppy John described the Minister as approachable and dedicated.
The Permanent Secretary said that he has made sincere efforts to help the Ministry in meeting their goals. At the end of his tenure, the outgoing MYSC Minister was hailed for his contribution and support to the various sectors.
The team has claimed that he is leaving behind a legacy of progress. His efforts for the development of Botswana have given the country the opportunity to attain international recognition.
The Minister also pushed for the review of the Botswana Sports Commission constitution. He helped Botswana achieve international recognition as a board member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The Minister also represented Botswana as a member of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Council of Ministers.
On the other hand, Rakgare also worked diligently on understanding and dealing with gender issues faced by the country. He held many important positions for the promotion of gender equality:
- Chairperson of AU Specialised Technical Committee on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment
- Chairperson of the Inter-ministerial Committee on Gender-Based Violence.
The team at thee MYSC also recalled that the Minister Tumiso Rakgare improved support for Botswana’s representatives at Miss World. He was responsible for ensuring they were supported throughout their journey and reign.
In his farewell speech, he congratulated the incoming president Boko and urged the MYSC staff to support the transition of power. He urged the team to continue working for a brighter, better Botswana
