City of Cape Town released game day logistics for Stormers v/s Lions. The DHL Stormers has finally returned to DHL Stadium this week for a crucial United Rugby Championship clash against the Emirates Lions.
Considering this, the officials from the City of Cape Town would like to advise spectators and residents of the logistics for the game day.
The Stormers will run out in front of more over 20,000 spectators for their first game in the Mother City since October 2024. The local team played for the last time at DHL Stadium on Oct 19, 2024 when they emerged victorious against Irish side, Munster.
Upcoming derby against northern rivals and the Lions presents an opportunity for the Stormers to climb the log. The main game event is scheduled for a 3:45 p.m. kick off and before that a curtain-raiser will be observed at 12:30 p.m. between South African under-19 invitational teams. Gates for the match will officially open at 12:00 noon.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that to ensure a smooth arrival they advise spectators to come early and avoid last-minute rushes. A free MyCiTi shuttle service will be provided to ticket holders on game day, especially for transport spectators to the stadium.
Due to limited parking in Green Point they recommend parking in the CBD and either use the shuttle or walking via the Fan Walk to the stadium.
Smith clarified that the Safety and Security team will be deployed in and around the stadium to support a seamless, safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
“We call on the Faithful to come in their numbers and show support to the Stormers for the important South African derby,” added JP Smith.
Reportedly, My CiTi shuttle service will take spectators to the stadium from the Civic Centre, Thibault Square and will give a tour of Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
Comprehensive details on the shuttle operations are clearly available on the MyCiTi website. The City of Cape Town will also open up its parking areas for the match day ticket holders who will take the bus from 12:00 noon.
Parking bays are also accessible from Hertzog Boulevard incoming and are on Civic Road. The parking lots will be available on a first-come, first served basis.
Notably, paid parking is also available at the CTICC, Parkalot on Jack Craig Street and at the Harbour Arch on Harbour Arch Boulevard.
Following their rugby game with Lions, the DHL Stormers will be in action again next week in a South African coastal derby against the HollywoodBets Sharks which is scheduled to be played on Dec 28, 2024 and will kick off at 5:00 p.m.
