Cape Town: Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism – Alderman James Vos welcomed the founder and CEO of TP – Daniel Julien, to mark the opening of the business process outsourcing (BPO) as newest call centre of the company to Cape Town, which will be able to host 3500 staff.
Reportedly, TP (Tele Performance) is one of the biggest BPO companies in the world, with more than 500,000 employees at divisions all over the world. Out of them, 6000 employees work in South Africa and 5500 are based in Cape Town. The company has already set a target to hit 10,000 local staff by the end of year 2026.
Vos claimed that, as a city government, they proudly welcome the companies such as TP to the shores. Together with the Special Purpose Vehicle, CapeBPO have worked consistently to attract the investments in the sector, while simultaneously growing the skills base to meet increased demand.
TP is one of the businesses that has worked closely with CapeBPO to train the operators, as many of them have now become the full-time employees in the company.
The most recent initiative is the Youth Skills and Employment Incubator which equips participants with the skills and knowledge that is required to secure the entry-level roles in contact centres and other BPO functions. However, the incubator is funded by the City of Cape Town and the Department of Labour and administered by CapeBPO.

As per the reports, almost 100,000 people work in call centres in the city, and serve domestic and international clients. The industry poured R23 billion into economy of Cape Town by the end of 2024.
Considering this, CEO of CapeBPO – Clayton Williams said that the visit of TP CEO to Cape Town has marked a significant milestone for the BPO sector of the city.
According to Williams, as the Founder and CEO of TP, his presence underscores the prominent growth of the Western Cape in the global outsourcing landscape. The rapid expansion of TP in the region clearly reflects the confidence that international operators have indulged in the local talent and operates environment.
It reinforces true potential of the sector to drive inclusive economic growth and further positions Cape Town as a leading offshore delivery destination, said Williams.
Alderman James Vos further stated that Cape Town has earned its place as the number one offshore destination in Africa. He said that they have done this by building more than just a business case.
Vos along with his team has built an ecosystem for industry growth. This is evidence which presents the fact that Teleperformance has just opened another major call centre in the city. The company’s leadership is also visiting Cape Town to seek out more sites to grow their base.
